Pride Guide

Wide array of players will highlight Pride

Columbus-There will be plenty of entertainment at the Columbus Pride Holiday, starting with the master of ceremonies and going to the wee hours of the morning.

Rob Nash, emcee

As early as 1992, Rob Nash was touring his stand-up routine across the country. He's been seen on VH-1's Stand-up Spotlight with Rosie O'Donnell, Comedy Central's Out There in Hollywood, and he emceed Bob Smith's and Suzanne Westenhoefer's halfhour comedy specials on HBO.

Erin Hamilton

This year's Pride Holiday is proud to feature headline act Erin Hamilton, the dancetrack-weaving songstress and daughter of the one and only Carol Burnett. Hamilton burst onto the club scene last year with her remix hit "Dreamweaver," which was featured in 1999's hit gay film Trick. Hamilton's album One World has been garnering widespread acclaim from critics across the country. Meanwhile, her next single, "The Flame," has been climbing the dance track charts and promises to make her a dance club hit for yet another year. Stonewall Columbus is excited to bring this rising star to our Pride Festival stage.

Donna Mogavero

Singer and songwriter Donna Mogavero has performed in venues all around the country, but she always find a dedicated fan base waiting for her in Columbus.

Mogavero was the recipient of not one, but four honors at the Columbus Music Awards, including Outstanding Acoustic Solo Performance, Outstanding Folk Singer Vocalist, Outstanding Rock Singer Vocalist, and Talent Deserving Wider Recognition.

Many Columbusites also know Mogavero for her popular CD101 radio show Acoustic Coffeehouse, where she introduces local and national artists who also deserve wider recognition. Mogavero's latest album, Out of the Nest, is a musical journey about leaving her home of Columbus and traveling across the country, only to return home again. Frozen Feet

Described as having a sound that recalls "a throwback to the hippie-dippy early '70s, when acoustic guitars, Dickie Betts-style guitar leads, bluesy female vocals and winsome harmonica were omnipresent," the three-piece band Frozen Feet is anxious to bring their unique sound to Columbus Pride Holiday 2000. The Dayton band has been the opening act for national acts ranging from Blood, Sweat and Tears to Pat Benatar and the Village People.

Legacy

Originally formed in 1994 as the Melissa Etheridge tribute band Silent Legacy, this group has become an entity all their own. This five-piece, all-women, old-fashioned rock-n-roll band may call Columbus their home, but they have played in cities all across the state, including the Cleveland, Akron, and Dayton Pride festivals.

Be on the lookout for Legacy's second CD, Legacy: State of Indecision 2000.

The Dyke Queens

years with their unique mix of classic vocal music and gay sensibilities. Their latest concert, "The Women We Love," featured songs by the likes of Bette Midler, Judy Garland, and Madonna-women that often endear themselves to many a gay man.

Now in excess of 100 members, the chorus is gearing up for a summer concert featuring aselection of patriotic works entitled "Across the Fruited Plain."

These local favorites have been entertaining crowds in Columbus for years now. Performing in venues such as the Berwick Ball, their hilariously entertaining costumed camp has become a staple at Blazer's Pub, and their send-up of traditional drag performance is sure to be a hit at Pride Holiday 2000. Columbus Gay Men's Chorus

Jennifer Holiday to host Dancing

Appearing again this year is the crowdpleasing vocals of the Columbus Gay Men's Chorus. Led by conductor David Monseur, the Chorus has been entertaining crowds for

For the third year in a row, the Ohio AIDS Coalition will sponsor Dancing in the Streets, an outdoor concert benefiting the Ohio AIDS Coalition and Stonewall Columbus.

This year's featured entertainer is the Broadway diva herself, Jennifer Holiday. Best known for her role

in the original production of Dream Girls, Holiday will entertain the outdoor crowd with old favorites and new dance tracks.

The celebration will be held Saturday, June 24 beginning at 8 pm (following the Pride Festival) in the parking lot in front of Axis nightclub, 775 N. High St. Admission is $12 advance, $15 at the gate.
